With Ronan Méhault, Université de Montréal.

For 5 000 years, Amerindian groups and the descendants of European colonists have stayed at Pointe-du-Buisson during the summer, in particular to take advantage of the fish-rich waters around it. The question of dietary habits is of great interest to the archaeologist because it provides information on life styles and the social dynamics that are found within and between human communities and even influence the cultural identify of these various groups. This talk will show how direct evidence (culinary waste) and indirect evidence (the tools which were used to slaughter, capture, harvest or prepare foods) can tell us about the dietary habits of these long-ago societies.
