Coteau-du-Lac National Historic Site

Coteau-du-Lac National Historic Site offers a window onto a particularly rich history going back several millennia in time. At first a portage for nomadic Aboriginal peoples, Coteau-du-Lac was later the site of a rudimentary channel used by French and British travelers to avoid the rapids of the St. Lawrence. The lock canal eventually constructed at this location was the first of its kind in North America.
