Every day, in every corner of Québec, captivating archaeological activities are on offer. Over 50 places throughout Québec have organized ingenious, entertaining events designed to appeal to old and young alike. You’re sure to make surprising discoveries. Several of these activities are free and accessible to all.

Every place in Québec has a story. Sometimes this story goes back thousands of years, to the time when humans first began to occupy the land some 12 000 years ago. Archaeology provides a key to many puzzles in our history. Why is the city of Québec located where it is? Why is Montréal on an island? How can an entire town – like Brest on the North Shore or Mont-Louis in the Gaspésie – practically vanish and be lost to memory? The answers to these questions may surprise you.

Archaeologists love to work on archaeological sites, but they also adore talking about their discoveries, hypotheses and conclusions. Throughout August, 40 archaeologists share the most exciting moments of their careers with you. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!
Jici LauzonArchéo-Québec is delighted to announce that actor and comedian Jici Lauzon has again agreed to be the spokesperson for Archaeology Month 2012. A long-time history and heritage enthusiast, he discovered the wonders of Québec archaeology last year and was fascinated by its diversity and accessibility. He invites us one and all to join in the activities offered by sites participating in Archaeology Month, to explore unique aspects of our surroundings and to uncover the secrets of treasures carefully concealed by the passage of time.
Archaeology Month is a chance to enjoy a rich and diversified program of over 80 activities: demonstrations, reconstructions, exhibitions, tastings, theatrical interpretation, quizzes, walks, boat excursions, GEO rallies, talks by archaeologists, simulated archaeological digs for children and real digs for adults. The choice is yours! Whether on your own, with friends or with family, you’re sure to have a memorable time. Just click on the Activities tab for all the details.
Congratulations to Mrs Lise Chouinard, from Saguenay (Qc), who won the Archaeo VIP stay in Québec City, for two persons, as part of the Historia contest for the Archaeology Month!
